Keeping it simple while still glaming it up on Valentine's Day // Makeup Look

One of the questions that gets asked quite alot around this time of the year is "How should I do my make up on Valentine's Day?". We get a few opportunities around the year to really dress up, so when we do have the chance, I say we put on something that we really love.

Wether you're a hopeless romantic and spend all year around looking for this day, you don't actually require a date to go all out, or to glam yourself up. Personally, I've never had a date for Valentine's Day - wait, stop, say what? I haven't been very lucky in the love department, and while that's okay, all I'll be looking forward for February 14th will be the chocolates I'll probably buy myself. And that's okay. I love myself, so I'll get myself a present.

But who knows, I might just put on my best look because I feel like it. Wether you want to go with a classic and natural look, or something more dramatic, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Make sure you still keep it simple - if you're already going all out on your face, try to balance the rest of your outfit and accessories to make sure you don't over do it anywhere else.

Secondly - you don't need the most expensive make up items to actually look good. It's much easier to play around with what you have (I don't actually own as much make up as one would think), than to think "If I had that, I'd do this. Maybe another time".

As I'm exploring the makeup world, I wanted to create a very feminine, simple but slightly dramatic look, and this is what I came up with. While this eyeshadow look isn't hard at all, it takes a little bit longer than your everyday makeup - especially if you're me.

While I'm usually a neutrals, pink tones, kind of girl, I'm also a huge fan of bold lips every now and again, so I decided that for once in my life I'd put my pinks to the side and change my look for a warm, brown and red tone.

How to do whatever it is I did:

#1 Preped my skin by moisturizing and applying my The Body Shop Tea Tree Pore Minimiser, that's not really a primer but I use it as such.

#2 Applied my concealer before the foundation (and then applied concealer again on where I needed it most). Continued on by putting on some of my Clinique Matte Powder on the infamous T-Zone.

#3 I then took my eye-shadow brush and first applied the darker shade on the outer corner of my eye, and worked it into the inner corner, slightly leaving the middle of the eye with nothing on. Next I applied the lighter brown shade onto the crease of my eye. I proceeded to blend it all together. Afterwards I decided to apply a white shade onto the very inner corner of my eye, just for the fun of it really.

#4 After applying my eyeliner from the middle of my eye, making it larger on the very end of my eye, I swept some mascara on.

#5 I couldn't at all forget my red lipstick though, because I mean, how gorgeous is it - honestly?

#6 And yes - after taking all the necessary pictures for the post, I decided to try and apply some shimmer onto my eye to see how it would look. Whilst playing with the make up I completely forgot that's what I intended to do first hand. I liked the way it looked, so I took a few more pictures to show you. (the last three pictures of the post)

I think that at the end of the day all you have to do is figure out exactly what you want to do, and how you want to look. Once you do, everything else will come to you. Just make sure you're wearing (both on your face and body) something you're totally comfortable in.

What I'm wearing on my face:

Concealer // Wake Me up Rimmel Concealer (£5.49)
Eyeshadow // Magic Studio Pocket Colours *****
Eyeliner // KIKO Liquid Precision Eyeliner (£6.90)
Mascara // Estée Lauder More than Mascara (£24.00)
Brows // Gimme Brow Benefit (£18.50)

***** It was a Christmas present a few years ago, and bought in Portugal, so I can't find the link anywhere.

What are you looking for on Valentine's Day? What kind of make up will you be wearing? Do you have anything planned? Let me know as I'd love to know.
